Poor alignment can create vibration, rubbing and uneven pad wear. A bent rotor or wheel that is out of true can produce similar symptoms.

4. Worn or glazed brake pads

Brake pads gradually wear thinner. Heat, repeated dragging or contamination can also harden and polish the surface, a condition commonly described as glazing.

Glazed pads may look shiny and make noise while providing inconsistent bite. Pads below the manufacturer’s wear limit should be replaced rather than reshaped.

5. Loose or damaged components

A loose caliper, worn mounting hardware, damaged rotor or movement in the wheel bearings can allow the brake system to vibrate. Incompatible pad and rotor combinations can also be unusually noisy.
